Große Werkschau im November | raum13 Deutzer Zentralwerk der Schönen Künste
Unter Bezugnahme und in Reflexion des raum13-Themenschwerpunktes Das Land Utopia #1-3 sollen nun bei ICH BIN IHR internationale und regionale Vertreter_innen aus Kunst, Politik und Wissenschaft in Köln für sechs Wochen aufeinander treffen, um – visionar und quer denkend – durch den gemeinsamen Dialog neue Impulse für künstlerisches Arbeiten und gesellschaftliches Engagement zu initiieren.
Die „Werkstatt“ bietet für die Teilnehmer_innen im Deutzer Zentralwerk der Schönen Künste zahlreiche Räumlichkeiten für einen inspirierenden Dialog. Arbeitsräume, Ateliers und Werkstätten bieten die Möglichkeit, die aus diesem Austausch entstehenden Ideen in gemeinsamen Experimenten in die Realitat umzusetzen. Diskussionsrunden, Foren, Exkursionen, Workshops und Symposien geben weitere Impulse für einen Dialog des voneinander Lernens und Verstehens.

raum13 Internationale Werkstatt und Werkschau der Schönen Künste
ICH BIN IHR möchte Menschen zusammenbringen, die durch die Einflüsse von europäischer und außereuropäischer Kolonialisierung/Globalisierung geprägt sind. Zum einen von Europa, einer der Motoren der Kolonialisierung des 19. Jahrhunderts bis in die Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts, und der nachfolgenden Neuordnung im sogenannten Kalten Krieg bis hin zur Gegenwart, in der die Kräfteverhältnisse auf unserem Globus überall scheinbar neu ausgehandelt werden. Zum anderen durch die Mimikry der “Zweiten und Dritten Welt“, die über diese Zeiten ein ambivalentes Bild zur eigenen Identität entwickelt haben.
Im Spannungsfeld der Diskussion über die aktuellen Wanderungsbewegungen der Menschen, dem Wirtschafts- und Bildungsgefälle auf unserer Welt und der Frage nach Nationalität und Weltbürgertum, wollen wir insbesondere auch die sogenannten Soft Skills, die Werte, die unterschiedlichen Selbstverständnisse untersuchen im Hinblick von Peripherie und Zentrum unseres individuellen und sozialen Bewusstseins, um künstlerische Wege zur Gestaltung von demokratischen Räumen interkulturell generieren zu können.
Explizit sollen die Entwicklungen der verschiedenen Kunst- und Wissenschaftsbereiche der letzten 200 Jahre, in der Wechselwirkung von Industrialisierung, politischen Ereignissen und technischem Fortschritt, unter die Lupe genommen werden und immer wieder in Bezug zu heutigen und zukünftigen Entwicklungen gesetzt werden. Dabei steht im Mittelpunkt die Frage nach den Auslösern, die epochale und globale Umbrüche evoziert haben und was wir aus heutiger Perspektive daraus lernen und entwickeln können. Retroaktivität zur Erhaltung der Zukunft!
Aus dem gemeinsamen Arbeitsprozess wird ein dreidimensionales Objekt entstehen, in der sich die bildende Kunst, das Sprechtheater, die Musik und der Bühnentanz nicht nur aus sich selbst heraus betrachten, sondern auch der gesellschaftliche Wandel durch die Industrialisierung/Kolonialisierung/Globalisierung aus einer nicht ausschließlich eurozentrischen Sicht erlebbar wird.
According to the raum13 thematic focus THE LAND UTOPIA #1-3 the project of the year 2017 I AM YOU – International Workshop and Exhibition of the Fine Arts invites national and international representatives from politics, arts and science to Cologne/Germany to offer for about six weeks a platform with the intention of initiating new impulses for actual and future artistic issues and social commitments by means of dialogue, discussion and exchange of ideas.
I AM YOU wants to bring people together who are affected by the european and non european influences of colonisations, driven by an european centrism in the past centuries to a following reorganisation after the so called Cold War to nowa days globalisation, where the distribution of power and forces seems to demand for a new balance throughout the world. One focus of the project wants to involve a second and third world´s perspective.
The project will take place in the premises of raum13 Deutzer Zentralwerk der Schönen Künste, Cologne/Germany, a former factory and nowadays a center for urban and cultural issues, which offers many and large premises as workspaces for any artistic exchange of ideas and their realisations.
There will be open round-table discussions, scientific panels, field excursions, symposiums and workshops for a period of about six weeks. Every expert, be that artistic, social, political, contributes his special point of view, his knowledge and his reflection on the social change of the historical events of industrialisation/colonialisation/globalisation and will be entering in dialogue with one another. On the basis of the varieties of perspectives will emerge a three dimensional “spiral spring of time” with perfomances of the fine arts, theatre, music and stage dance that will visualise the results of the joint work process especially from a global and not only Eurocentric point of view.
The platform wants to give fresh impetus to all participants by developing, exchanging and testing new original ideas and to transform them into an artistic show with a final exhibition that will expose the results for two weeks in November 2017.
For this reason we would be very pleased to work with Mrs. Ruth and Mr. Mike Ssembiro, Mrs. Mary Ntale, Mr. Jessy Sserwadda and Mr. Andrew Kikulwe from Uganda on different projects to contribute their artistic perspective on the subject.
Ein besonders Highlight im Rahmen von ICH BIN IHR_ Internationale Werkstatt und Werkschau der Schönen Künste erwartet Sie am Samstag, den 2. September um 19:30 Uhr mit der Präsentation des Peace Murals von Mike Ssembiro und Ruth Sembiro aus Uganda.
African Peace Mural Uganda is a nonprofit arts project started by motivated Art educators in Uganda that promotes international understanding of Peace and Love through the creation of large textile murals in Uganda with selected communities around the world. This creative activity allows politicians, artists, students and local communities to create symbols of peace on a large textile in an effort to promote cross-cultural collaboration and imagination stimulation in a relationship with peaceful artwork.
Ssembiro Mike born in 1967 married to Ruth, with three sons Simon, Andrew and Jessy served as Head of art department at Namilyango College from 1998 to 2012. He Coordinated schools and communities to produce “ The Uganda Creative Peace Mural”, which was exhibited during the Arts in Parliament program in Westminster hall, London on 14th June 2012 year of Olympics. He is the Director of Kasangula Talent School and the founder, “African Peace Murals Uganda” a non political, non religious organization. He has participated in several World Peace activities and was a panelist for World Peace Conference in Istanbul Turkey. Mike is the representative of International child Art foundation in Uganda. He has also received the World Children’s Award at the World Children’s Festival for devoting his life to children and their art and thus uplifting the children and making a huge difference in their lives.Mike received a B.Educ.(Fine and Applied Arts) Makerere University in1999 and He received online training as a Creative Arts iEARN Master teacher USA in 2010 and as International Inspirational local tutor for British council 2012 . He currently serves as a Senior Inspector of Schools in charge of art and craft Ministry of Education Science and Sports department of Directorate of Education Standards Uganda.
Ruth Ssembiro born in 1973 and married to Ssembiro Mike lives in Kampala Uganda with their three sons Simon, Andrew and Jessy. She worked as a Country Director, Redeeming Hope Ministries International to give hope to the hopeless people in different communities by providing food, clothes and Counseling. She continues to be a proponent of Peace and Unity in rural communities. Recently they opened a Talent School for rural and disadvantaged children to equip them with practical skills for Jobs. She is a guardian to more than 200 children at Kasangula Talents Schoolandfounder of African Peace Murals Uganda. She has a Bachelors degree in Office Management and Secretarial Studies. She worked as Secretary with Namilyango College the first Secondary School in Uganda for 10 years, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development for four years (4) and currently she is working as Administrative Assistant for the Minister of State for Gender and Culture Affairs.
Balikuddembe Mary is a Fine art teacher and Social Worker graduate with eight years experience in management and community work. She is a 32 years old female born in Mukono District, in Uganda. She attained Leadership training through Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) from East Africa Regional Leadership Center Nairobi and now active Alumni of the Ugandan Chapter; Mary is passionate about Life skills empowerment and mentorship of young people and women through Art and Culture, into developing their Career, realizing their self-worth, and their contribution towards community development.
She started her career as a Secondary School Teacher where she closely interacted with young people in understanding their life’s transition into productive decision making, before joining the non-profit sector. Among other organizations, she worked with PeerLink Initiative Uganda as a Project Coordinator implementing Nyarushanje Community Library and Empowerment Centre Projects and is an Executive Board-Committee Member and the Head of the Human Resource Committee of Mukono District NGO Forum in Uganda. Her experience in community work drove her to be joined by fellow youth into the establishment of Youth Creativity @ Hand Uganda (YCH-U); a youth and women led organization that collaborates with existing structures in building the livelihood resilience of youth against the shocks of unemployment in semi-urban areas of Mukono District using cultural and artistic ideas. Currently, she is working in partnership with African Peace Muruals Uganda and raum 13 gGmbH participating in “The land Utopia #1-3” the project of the year 2017 “I AM YOU-International Workshop and Exhibition of the Fine Arts”, a close to three months long experience of the architectural beauty, and the rich culture of Arts in German taking place at raum 13 Deutzer Zentralwerk der Schonen Kunste, Cologne/Germany.
Kikulwe Andrew Obed is a twenty one year old from a naturarly beautiful land of Uganda. Born in Mukono district and growing with a passion for art. He embraced an interest in graphics designing and currently a creative, openminded, flexible, selfdriven and commited lead designer working with Castrel. He has participated and won the Youth logo competition for the commonwealth youth conference. On addition to that, he has also participated in the international essay contest for young people, Goi Peace foundation and UNESCO- 2013. He is a student, currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Business Computing at Makerere University.He is selfmotivated and has love for learning and succeeding as he strives to become an outstanding and successful man in today’s society. Passionate about developing solutions to different challenges as well as creating a positive change with and towards the benefit of the society. Apparently working in partnership with African Peace Muruals Uganda and raum 13 gGmbH participating in the project ,“I AM YOU-International Workshop and Exhibition of the Fine Arts”.
Sserwadda Jessy He is a male Kampala native born in 1998 in Mukono district in Uganda. He enjoys writing, drawing and painting. He participated in the past artistic projects such as the Japan artmile project. He was also the vice president of the writers club in his high school, Lubiri Secondary School. He was also nominated as 6th in the painting of the World Peace Prayre in 2014. He is also actively involved in the creation of the Uganda Creative Peace Murals. He is a winner of the Peace Pearls International Art Contest currently joining University for a bachelors degree in International Business at Makerere University.
Anja Kolacek ist Geschäftsführerin und künstl. Leiterin der raum13 gGmbH, die sich zum Ziel setzt die Kunst, insbesondere das Theater in seinem Ausdruck weiterzuentwickeln und genreübergreifende Frei-, Zwischen- und Denkräume für die Kunst im 21.Jhd. zu generieren. Aktuelles Projekt ist raum13 Deutzer Zentralwerk der Schönen Künste. Sie studierte Tanz und Tanzpädagogik an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim und Kultur-Management an der VWA in Köln. Die ersten 10 Jahre ihrer künstlerischen Laufbahn arbeitete sie deutschlandweit als Tänzerin und Choreografin an verschiedenen Städtischen Bühnen unter anderem in Rostock und Heidelberg. 2002 wurde sie als Regieassistentin und Choreographin ans Schauspiel Köln engagiert und war fünf Jahre Leiterin des Jugendclub am Schauspiel Köln bis 2007. Im Anschluss gründete sie 2007 gemeinsam mit dem Bühnen- und Lichtbildner Marc Leßle den raum13. Die ersten Produktionen entstanden in Zusammenarbeit mit dem NS-Dokumentationszentrum, im Stadtraum, in der Christuskirche und im Kunsthaus Rhenania. Ab 2009 veränderte sich die Arbeit zu großen Stadtkunstprojekten, wie Alleswastanzt, Tanzhaus Köln Interim und aktuell dem raum13 Deutzer Zentralwerk der Schönen Künste, mit dem sie seit 2011 das riesige historische Gebäudeensemble der Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz-Werke erkunden, verwandeln und bespielen. Mit teilweise ortsbezogenen, aber auch globalen genreübergreifenden Produktionen an den Schnittstellen von Tanz, Schauspiel, Musik und bildender Kunst arbeiten Kolacek/Leßle an den Phänoenen unserer Zeit. Das Goethe-Institut zählt das Projekt von Kolacek/Leßle zu den zehn wichtigsten Projekten in Deutschland, die sich mit der kulturellen Nutzung von historischen Industrieanlagen beschäftigen.
Marc Leßle ist Geschäftsführer und künstl. Leiter der raum13 gGmbH, die sich zum Ziel setzt die Kunst, insbesondere das Theater in seinem Ausdruck weiterzuentwickeln und genreübergreifende Frei-, Zwischen- und Denkräume für die Kunst im 21.Jhd. zu generieren. Schon während seiner technischen Ausbildung arbeitete Marc am Badischen Staatstheater Karlsruhe bei der Bühnen- Beleuchtungsabteilung. Im Anschluss sammelte er Erfahrung, u.A. an den Zwingenberger Schlossfestspielen. 1995 gründete er zusammen mit Freunden das La Mort Subite in Karlsuhe, ein Veranstaltungs- und Bierspezialitätenkeller, in dem er spartenübergreifende Kunstprogramme entwickelte und sie 2007 gemeinsam mit dem Bühnen- und Lichtbildner Marc Leßle den raum13.
